How does the Guardian Sleeper® help reduce the risk of SIDS?

The Guardian Sleeper® helps reduce the risk of SIDS because it addresses all the factors that have been shown to increase the likelihood of SIDS death in infants. The Guardian Sleeper:

  • Is a one-piece cover and positioner that maintains the baby in the "Back to Sleep" position.
  • Removes the need for overdressing an infant which can cause overheating. Because the baby's head and shoulders are uncovered and because babies can then kick and maintain airflow, they are better able to maintain a healthy body temperature throughout the night.
  • Removes the need for loose covers or positioners in the crib.
  • Cannot be kicked off or over the baby's face
  • Holds the baby in the center of the mattress away form the sides of the bassinet, crib or Pack 'n' Play / original co-sleeper so the baby cannot get his face in a compromising position and is always able to breathe oxygen-rich air.

Please see our Info on SIDS page, too, for more information on SIDS symptoms and SIDS prevention.

How does the Guardian Sleeper® help to relieve the symptoms of reflux?

The Guardian Sleeper® gently holds an infant in place through the use of a soft harness so that the bassinet, crib or Pack 'n' Play / Original Co-Sleeper® can be angled as much as 45 degrees without your baby sliding down the mattress and ending up in a crumpled heap at the bottom of the bed.

As most pediatricians advocate angling to help reduce the backward flow of the infant's stomach contents, the Guardian Sleeper® allows a baby to remain comfortably in the correct position and help in the reduction of acid and food regurgitation.

For more information, please see the info on reflux page. If you have any questions or would like to custom order, please email us at info@mlhllc.com or call 800-577-5675 and we will be happy to answer any of your questions.

Is the Guardian Sleeper® flame-resistant?

The polar fleece fabric is treated for flame retardancy. However, we highly recommend never placing the sleeper close to an open flame or using space heaters with open flames in a baby's room. As cotton is not highly flammable, it is not treated for flame retardancy like the polyester fibres. The organic fabric enjoys some natural flame retardancy in the properties of the soy content.

  • The 100% cotton is machine wash cold, delicate cycle. Do not bleach. Tumble dry low with Velcro closed.
  • The organic soy/cotton blend is machine wash cold, delicate cycle. Do not bleach. Tumble dry low with Velcro closed.

Won't my baby get too warm using the Guardian Sleeper®?

The Guardian Sleeper® has been specially designed to meet the recommendations for safe sleep as directed by the "Back to Sleep" campaign and the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Because babies regulate their temperature through their head and shoulders, it is recommended that babies have their shoulders uncovered; the Guardian Sleeper® achieves this. The baby can also kick and create airflow which helps them maintain a healthy body temperature. Because you know that your baby will stay safely covered, you do not need to overdress her, so this also helps to prevent overheating.

The polar fleece Guardian Sleeper®, which is the warmest of the 3 fabric types, has a TOG (thermal efficiency) rating of 1.8 which is at the low end of the optimal range for warmth.

The Guardian Sleeper® privacy policy?

You can rest assured that we will never share your information with anyone. As moms ourselves, we know how little time moms have, and sifting through uninvited emails or dealing with unsolicited calls eats into our moments to breathe. We will only use your information to respond to your questions or update you on important news on baby safety. That's a promise from one mom to another.

Will the noise of the Velcro being adjusted awaken my baby?

Some babies awake momentarily when they hear the Velcro being adjusted but they usually go right back to sleep.

The majority of pediatricians recommend putting infants to bed while they are awake so that they can learn to put themselves back to sleep when they awake at night. Babies who are put to bed asleep often have a hard time self-soothing as they wake up disoriented - just as you might if you fell asleep in the living room and woke up in your bedroom.

Once you have used the Guardian Sleeper® a couple of times, you will start to Velcro it to the correct snugness so that you will not need to adjust it and cause the noise of unfastening the Velcro.

Back to Questions

Until what age can my baby use the Guardian Sleeper®?

The Guardian Sleeper® is recommended for use in newborns to infants of about 8 months old or until a baby is rolling proficiently from front to back and back to front independently.

Some moms leave their babies in a Guardian Sleeper® considerably longer because their babies sleep so well, safely and comfortably in it.
